LIQUID ADHESIVE OF INCREASED FLEXIBILITY, (4 - 20 mm),
FOR LARGE FLOOR TILES
OR STRONGLY PROFILED BOTTOM SURFACE
FOR EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL USE, RECOMMENDED FOR TERRACES, BALCONIES, AND IN FLOOR HEATING SYSTEMS

USE
ATLAS CAL N is a specialist adhesive designed for fixing floor ceramic tiles (glazed tiles, terracotta, clinker, gres tiles) and natural stone, stone agglomerate, terrazzo and concrete tiles. It is designed for fixing large floor tiles and tiles that have a very strongly profiled bottom surface. ATLAS CAL N can be used on balconies, terraces and floor heating systems. It can be applied on concrete, cement or anhydrite jointless floor. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use with maximum bed thickness of 4÷20 mm.
PROPERTIES
ATLAS CAL N is a ready-to-use dry mix of top-quality cement binder, aggregates and specially selected modifying agents. The possibility of adjusting operating consistency of the adhesive (from liquid to plastic) and a wide range of adhesive layer thickness (4÷20 mm) ensure that the adhesive enables levelling of fixed tiles as well as enables to prepare them with a small slope. ATLAS CAL N enables to fix tiles and to adjust surface irregularities (within the range of allowable mortar thickness) without prior levelling layer. Its operating parameters guarantee its free spreading out under the surface of fixed tiles, making it possible to obtain total adhesion surface without voids. It has increased flexibility that ensures its resistance to deformations occurring during the period of use in the layer arrangement: substrate - adhesive – tile (e.g. on terraces or floor and wall heating systems). ATLAS CAL N is frost- and water-resistant.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The substrate may be slightly irregular, but has to be dry and structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken adhesion of the adhesive, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, grease, wax, remains of emulsion and oil paint. If necessary, use ATLAS UNI-GRUNT or ATLAS UNI-GRUNT PLUS priming emulsion to reduce substrate’s excessive absorption. Fix tiles after applied priming coat dries.
ADHESIVE PREPARATION
In order to prepare the adhesive, pour dry adhesive into a container with suitable amount of water (in proportion: 0.21÷0.24 l of water for 1 kg of dry adhesive) and mix until homogenous. It is best to mix it mechanically, using a drill with a mixer. The adhesive is ready to use after 5 minutes and after remixing. It maintains its properties for ca. 4 hours.
APPLICATION
Apply the adhesive to the prepared substrate and make a thin contact layer with a smooth float made of steel, ensuring even distribution. Put the appropriate layer of adhesive on the fresh contact layer and shape it (possibly in one direction) using a notched trowel. In both cases, do not lay the adhesive over excessively large surface because it maintains its adhesive properties for 10÷30 minutes (depending on the substrate and environment). In order to check if it is still possible to fix tiles, you should make a test, i.e. press the adhesive with your fingers. If the adhesive has remained on the fingers, you may fix tiles. If the fingers are clean, remove the old layer of the adhesive and apply a new one. After shaping the applied adhesive, place a tile over and press lightly towards the substrate. Apply such an amount of the adhesive that when a tile is pressed down, the adhesive is under the whole surface of the tile. Tile position may be adjusted within 10 minutes afterwards. If grouting is to be carried out, remove excess of the adhesive when tiles are pressed towards the surface. The floor can be accessed or grouted no earlier than 24 hours after the tiles have been fixed; the adhesive achieves its full functional strength after 3 days. The information comprises basic instructions of product application and does not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and OHS regulations.
CONSUMPTION
On average 1.5 kg of the adhesive is used for 1 m2 for each 1 mm of the adhesive layer. In practice consumption depends on how smooth and even the substrate is and what type of ceramic material is applied.

TOOLS
A drill with a mixer, smooth and notched float made of metal. Wash the tools with clean water directly after use. Clean the remainder of the set mortar that is difficult to remove with ATLAS SZOP.
