QUICK-SETTING ADHESIVE FOR CERAMIC TILES,
FOR INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL USE

USE
ATLAS MIG is a specialist adhesive designed for fixing wall and floor ceramic tiles (glazed tiles, terracotta, clinker, gres tiles) and non-absorbent cement, concrete and natural stone tiles. It is used in particular if quick tile fixing and use is required e.g. in case of refurbishment of corridors or other rooms that have to be continuously used. ATLAS MIG can be used on the following substrates: cement plaster, cement-lime plaster, gypsum plaster, concrete, aerated concrete, cement or anhydrite jointless floor, and rough surfaces made of bricks, blocks, hollow bricks and other similar ceramic or lime-sand materials. It is suitable for indoor and outdoor use with maximum thickness of the layer of 2÷5 mm.
PROPERTIES
ATLAS MIG is a ready-to-use dry mix of top-quality cement binder, aggregates and modifying agents. It has good plasticity and adhesion to various construction materials, which ensures its exceptionally general-purpose application. Owing to quick setting, tiles can be used (e.g. for grouting) in ca. 4 hours from fixing. Owing to its operating parameters, it is very efficient, convenient and easy to use. Optimum selection of consistency and thickness of adhesion layer in accordance with recommendations (for relevant conditions of mortar application) eliminate slip of newly adhered tiles. ATLAS MIG is frost- and water-resistant.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
The substrate should be dry, stable, even and structurally sound i.e. strong enough; it should be free from anything that may weaken mortar adhesion, in particular dust, dirt, lime, oil, fat, wax, remains of emulsion and oil paint. It is recommended that any irregularities of substrate’s surface that prevent from application of the appropriate layer thickness (2÷5 mm) of ATLAS MIG should be adjusted with, for example, ATLAS LEVELLING MORTAR, ATLAS PLASTERING MIX, ATLAS TEN-10 mortar, etc. If necessary, use ATLAS UNI-GRUNT or ATLAS UNI-GRUNT PLUS PRIMING EMULSION to reduce substrate’s excessive absorption. In case of applying the adhesive to unstable substrates of bearing capacity that can hardly be determined (e.g. dusty, difficult to clean), it is recommended to make an adhesion test, i.e. to adhere a tile and check the bonding after 48 hours. In case of fixing ceramic tiles and terracotta to stable water-resistant plywood, or directly on the surface of existing glazed tiles, or on wall or floor heating systems, it is recommended to apply a mortar of increased elasticity and adherence ATLAS PLUS or ATLAS MIG combined with ATLAS ELASTIC EMULSION.
ADHESIVE PREPARATION
In order to prepare the adhesive, pour dry mix into a container with suitable amount of water (in proportion: 0.22 l of water for 1 kg of dry mix) and mix until homogenous. It is best to mix it mechanically, using a drill with a mixer. The adhesive is ready to use after 5 minutes and after remixing. It maintains its properties for ca. 1 hour. When using with ATLAS ELASTIC EMULSION, pour it to a water solution of the emulsion prepared as follows: 10 kg of ATLAS MIG dry mix for a solution prepared using 1 kg of ATLAS ELASTIC EMULSION and 1.7 l of water. Continue as previously described. Adhesive with ATLAS ELASTIC EMULSION maintains its properties for ca. 30 minutes.
APPLICATION
ATLAS MIG is applied in a thin layer for tiling. Apply the adhesive to the prepared, primed substrate with a trowel or a smooth float made of steel and then distribute it evenly and shape it (possibly in one direction) using a notched trowel. Do not lay the adhesive over excessively large surface because it maintains its adhesive properties for 10÷30 minutes (depending on the substrate and environment). In order to check if it is still possible to fix tiles, you should make a test, i.e. press the adhesive with your fingers. If the adhesive has remained on the fingers, you may fix tiles. If the fingers are clean, remove the old layer of the adhesive and apply a new one. After having spread the adhesive place the tile and press it towards the substrate. Apply so much adhesive that when a tile is pressed down, its contact surface with the adhesive is even and as large as possible (min. 2/3 of tile surface). In case of tile fixing on floors located outdoors, it is recommended to ensure complete adhesion surface. Tile position may be adjusted within 10 minutes afterwards. If grouting is to be carried out, remove excess of the adhesive when tiles are pressed towards the surface. The floor can be accessed or grouted no earlier than 4 hours after the tiles have been fixed. ATLAS MIG adhesive with ATLAS ELASTIC EMULSION maintains its properties for ca. 6 hours. The adhesive achieves its full functional strength after 3 days.
The information comprises basic instructions of product application and does not relieve users of responsibility for work in accordance with good construction practice and OHS regulations. Caution: increased air humidity and low temperature extend the setting time.
CONSUMPTION
On average 1.5 kg of the adhesive is used for 1 m2 for each 1 mm of the adhesive layer. In practice consumption depends on how smooth and even the substrate is and what type of tiles is applied.
Approximate consumption of adhesive for selected types of tiles
Type of tileTrowel’s notch sizeThickness of adhesive layerAverage consumption (kg/m2)
Small tiles (up to 10x10 cm) of smooth or slightly profiled bottom surface 4.0 mm ca. 2.0÷3.0 mm 2.1÷4.5
Medium tiles (25x25 cm) of slightly profiled bottom surface 6.0÷8.0 mm ca. 2.5÷4.0 mm 2.65÷6.0
Large tiles (30x30 cm) of medium profiled bottom surface 8.0÷10.0 mm ca. 3.5÷5.0 mm 3.7÷7.5
TOOLS
A drill with a mixer, smooth and notched float made of steel. Wash the tools with clean water directly after use. Clean the remainder of the set mortar that is difficult to remove with ATLAS SZOP.
