Compensation mat allows for separation of ceramic or stoneware cladding from existing substrate, keeping its continuity and homogeneity regardless of the size of installed cladding. Allows for reallocation of compensation joints in cladding beyond existing expansion joints.
COMPENSATION MAT ATLAS T 100 can be used for separation of expansion joints of ceramic cladding from expansion joints in existing substrate.
Compensation mat allows for installation of continuous, homogenous ceramic cladding of all sizes, including large-sized, and various types of difficult substrates with no requirement for its removal in following cases:
- surfaces with various types of floors e.g. parquet and ceramic cladding
- substrates with floor heating on a part of the room,
- contaminated substrates with decreased bonding with e.g. residues of adhesives and bitumen masses, after removal of parquet, adhesives for PVC lining, linoleum, carpet lining, panels etc.
- weakened substrates with a layer of concrete laitance on the top,
- substrates with shrinkage cracks (without vertical displacement),
- substrates in rooms with complicated geometry and pattern of expansion joints,
- substrates with threshold expansion joints in areas between rooms.
- installation of ceramic cladding on insufficiently stabilized substrates, with increased mass humidity (<6%)
For interior use in residential, office and service rooms with assumed exploitation loads up to 3.0 KN/m².
COMPENSATION MAT ATLAS is manufactured in form of special, pressed, embossed PVC mat with fiberglass mesh, 1 m wide. Mesh is 1.1 m wide, with overlapping 10 cm areas allowing for connecting subsequent mat strips.
Ceramic or stone cladding applied on COMPENSATION MAT ATLAS T 100 compensates horizontal tensions regardless of existing substrate – forms floating floor on any non-deformable substrates where top coat is made of e.g. lacquered parquet, resin floor, terrazzo, timber floor, ceramic or stone cladding, OSB, dry screeds. Floor made of timber or OSB must be firmly secured to the supporting structure.
It is possible to apply ceramic and stone cladding of various types and sizes can be installed on a properly applied mat and the substrate fulfilling above requirements. It is not recommended to apply ceramic or glass mosaic on the compensation mat.
Use of compensation mat does not affect the width of joints, which should be adjusted to the size of tiles and assumed substrate deformation. The pattern of expansion joints (elastic filling of the joints) cannot be omitted and should be adjusted to the pattern and size of tiles, does not have to match with existing substrate expansion joints.
Substrate should be even and stable.
It is not recommended to apply the compensation mat in wet rooms (e.g. bathrooms).
Installation of the compensation mat
Mat should be unwrapped on the substrate in place of installation, in order to stabilize mat`s shape. The mat should be stabilized for min. 12 h in room temperature. Mat should be applied tightly with fibreglass mesh on the top. Connect the subsequent mat strips:
- longitudinal – with the outstanding mesh part,
- transverse – made with mesh of min 20 cm width, overlapping 10 cm on adjacent layer.
Mat should be covered with adhesive mortar of C2S1 class with a trowel with 6 mm notches.
Mortar should be pulled over the surface of mesh, with coarse top surface. Leave to dry on level allowing for foot traffic without traces.
Installation of the tiles on mat ATLAS T 100
Ceramic or stone cladding should be adhered to the compensation mat with combined method with C2S1 adhesive.
Roll 1 m wide (reinforcing mesh 1.1 m, overlap 10 cm), length – 25 m
Compensation mat should be built up in possibly short time after its application. Foot traffic on unwrapped mat is allowable only on a step of its installation and installation of ceramic cladding.
Absolute condition for installation of the mat is a lack of vertical displacements between individual substrate areas or crack edges.
Mat should not be installed in ambient and substrate temperature below 10 °C. Mat should be stored in place of the application for min. 24 h.
Protect the mat against sunlight during storage and transport. It should be transported in factory packed rolls. The rolls should be assembled in vertical position (overlapping mesh should be on the top).
