Product description

Designed for fixing tiles of high absorption, made of natural and artificial stone, e.g. marble – the adhesive contains white cement and does not cause discolouration that might appear in contact with grey cement.
Perfect for fixing glass mosaic and glass-hollow blocks – due to high adhesiveness and white cement.
It is recommended for fixing tiles exposed to extremely difficult usage conditions – caused by non-standard deformation of the substrate and adverse weather conditions.
Ideal for tiles exposed to deformation – due to its high flexibility, it perfectly absorbs strain:
• caused by temperature - on balconies, terraces, façades, floor and wall heating systems,
• mechanical – on wooden floors, plasterboards, flabby partition walls, on flexible watertight insulation foil systems like AVAL KL 51 (ATLAS WODER E) or ATLAS WODER DUO.
Enables fixing tiles on difficult substrates – like: OSB panels, terrazzo, "tile on tile", as well as strongly adhered paint coatings (e.g. oil paint dado), bitumen (after parquets) and adhesives (after PVC tiles), etc.

Main properties

  • no discolouration of marble and natural stone
  • high plasticity
  • for glass mosaic and stone cladding
  • for terraces, façades and heating systems, fireplaces
  • for difficult substrates – OSB panels, plasterboards, existing tiles

Main parameters

  • consumption: ca. 1.5 kg of dry mix / 1 m² / 1 mm adhesive layer
  • bed thickness: 2 - 5 mm
  • high adhesion: ≥ 1 N/mm²

Types of substrates – all listed above difficult or deformable substrates as well as plastered and non-plastered walls of blocks, hollow brick, brick and cement and anhydrite screeds.
Types of tiles – small, medium and large size tiles; tiles listed above as well as other highly absorptive ceramic, cement, etc. tiles.

PROPERTIES

Go top
Highly flexible.
Increased adhesiveness – actual adhesion to a concrete substrate in standard conditions is 2.0 N/mm² (minimum adhesiveness required by the standard is 1.0 N/mm²).
Reduced slip enables fixing tiles from top to bottom – optimum selection of consistency and thickness of adhesion layer in accordance with recommendations eliminates slip of the adhesive making it possible to start works from the top of the wall and avoid fixing cut tiles on its exposed surface.

APPLICATION

Go top
Substrate preparation
The substrate should be:
• stable – sufficiently rigid and sufficiently long stabilized. The stabilizing time is, respectively:
- for new plasters made of ready-to-use ATLAS mortars - min. 1 week for each 1 cm of thickness,
− for ATLAS POSTAR 80, ATLAS SMS 15 and ATLAS SMS 30 subfloors – min. 24 hours,
− for ATLAS POSTAR 20 screed - min. 4-5 days,
− for self-leveling compounds ATLAS TERPLAN N or ATLAS TERPLAN R - min. 3 days
− for anhydrite jointless floors – at least 2 – 3 weeks,
− for concrete substrates, at least 28 days,
air-dry or matt-wet,
• even – maximum adhesive thickness is 10 mm, for the substrate leveling use, e.g. ATLAS ZW 330 mortar,
clean – free from layers that can deteriorate the adhesiveness, especially dust, dirt, lime, oils, greases, wax, residues of oil and emulsion paints; a substrate covered with algae, fungi, etc. must be cleaned with ATLAS MYKOS agent.
primed with one of ATLAS primers:
Cement substrates:
−AVAL KT 17 (ATLAS UNI-GRUNT) or AVAL KN 97 (ATLAS UNI-GRUNT PLUS) – if the substrate is excessively absorptive,
−GRUNTO-PLAST – if the substrate absorptivity is low, or it is covered with layers limiting the strength of adhesion.
Gypsum plasters and anhydrite screeds, prior the tiles fixing, strictly require priming with the use of AVAL KT 17 (ATLAS UNI-GRUNT) emulsion or ATLAS GRUNTO-PLAST compound. OSB panels should be firmly attached so that do not bend and overlap under load. Arrangement of the layers of a substrate with OSB panels should be designed and constructed so as to prevent deformation of screed, which might lead to the destruction of the cladding. OSB panels should be sanded and dusted after fixing. In addition, it is recommended to coat them with ATLAS WODER W or AVAL KL 51 (ATLAS WODER E) mass in order to protect the panels from moisture and improve adhesion of the adhesive. Alternatively, ATLAS GRUNTO-PLAST as a contact layer improving the adhesion only, can be used.
Adhesive preparation
Pour the adhesive from the bag into a container with the suitable amount of water (see Technical Data for proportions) and mix, using a drill with a mixer, until homogenous. The dispersed adhesive should be left to rest for 5 minutes and then remixed. So prepared adhesive should be used up within ca. 5 hours.
Adhesive application
The adhesive should be applied to the surface with a steel trowel or a smooth float and then distributed evenly and shaped (possibly in one direction) using a notched trowel.
Placing the tile
After the application, the adhesive retains its properties for ca. 20 minutes (at ambient temperature ca. 23 °C and 55 % humidity). Within this time, the tile must be placed and pressed well against it. The contact surface with the adhesive should be as large as possible - min. 2/3 of the surface of the tile. For floor tiles and for glazing made outdoors, it is recommended that the adhesion surface be complete. The excess of adhesive appearing in the joints in pressing the tiles should be removed immediately.
Tile adjustment
The position of a tile can be adjusted with delicate moving it along the bonding plane. It can be done for about 10 minutes after it is pressed (at temperature ca. 23 °C and 55 % humidity).
Grouting and using the tiled floor
Foot traffic and grouting can start after approx. 24 hours from the tiles fixing. The adhesive achieves its functional strength after 3 days.

CONSUMPTION

Go top
Average consumption: ca. 1.5 kg of dry mix / 1 m² / 1 mm adhesive layer – for complete filling the space under the tile. It depends on the smoothness of the surface and the bottom side of the tile.

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Go top
• The tiles must not be soaked before fixing. When determining the adhesive thickness under the cladding, one should consider the geometric deviation of tiles shape, e.g. plane warpage.
• While fixing the tiles on weak substrates whose bearing capacity is difficult to establish (e.g. dusty, difficult to clean), it is recommended to perform an adhesion test by fixing a tile and checking the bond after 48 hours.
• In the case of fixing thin marble tiles temporary discolouration may occur due to high water absorption of marble. Fixed marble goes back to the previous colour after about 7 days, i.e. it is completely dry.
• Open time – from the moment of application of the adhesive to the moment of placing the tiles upon it – is limited and depends on the absorptiveness of the substrate and temperature and humidity of the environment. In order to check if it is still possible to fix tiles, performing a test is recommended. It consists in pressing your fingers against the adhesive. If the adhesive remains on the fingers, you may fix tiles. If the fingers are clean, the old layer of the adhesive has to be removed and a new one applied.
• The tools must be cleaned with clean water directly after use. Difficult to remove residues of the set adhesive can be removed with the ATLAS SZOP agent.
DANGER. Contains cement. May cause respiratory irritation. Causes skin irritation. Causes serious eye damage. May cause an allergic skin reaction. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid breathing dust.
