AVAL KT 400

dispersion primer and moisture barrier

AVAL KT 400

Product description

For rapid blocking of fresh cement-based screeds from increased residual moisture (up to 90% RH)
Speeds up finishing works – allows for earlier commencement of application of finishing layers upon substrates of slightly higher moisture content (up to 90% RH), e.g. upon slowly drying screeds.

Main properties

  • blocks moisture present in fresh cement screeds
  • fast-drying, enables quick commencement of further work
  • upon cement and anhydrite screeds
  • beneath cement and anhydrite compounds
  • under ceramic tiles, linoleum, PVC flooring, wooden flooring
  • high yield
  • safe in use - solvent free

Main parameters

  • consumption: 0.2 kg/1 m²
  • fast-drying – further works just after 2 hours.

USE

Go top
  • for rapid blocking of fresh cement-based screeds from increased residual moisture (up to 90% RH)
  • upon cement screeds carried out in floating system (on thermal/acoustic insulation layer) or on separation layer (e.g. made of construction foil)
  • upon screeds with no heating system
  • recommended before use of self-leveling cement and anhydrite compounds as well as cement leveling mortars
  • for indoor use

Types of substrates – cement screeds.
Types of top finishing – textile, PVC flooring, linoleum, caoutchouc flooring, ceramic tiles, parquet, panels, wood, etc.

PROPERTIES

Speeds up finishing works – allows for earlier commencement of application of finishing layers upon substrates of slightly higher moisture content (up to 90% RH), e.g. upon slowly drying screeds.
Fast-drying – further works just after 2 hours.
Does not require quartz sand layer on top.
Solvent-free.
Enables isolation of odorous residues of old adhesives or floor layers.
High yield – one packaging enables application upon approx. 50 m².

TECHNICAL DATA

Go top
AVAL KT 400 is manufactured as water dispersion based on polyvinyl chloride with modifiers.
Density of emulsion
approx. 1.2 g/cm³
Colour
beige, transparent after drying
Substrate and ambient temperature during work
from +10°C up to +25°C
Further work after priming*
after 1 hour (diluted emulsion)
after 2 hours (undiluted emulsion)
*The time shown in the table is recommended for the application in the temperature 20°C and humidity 65% (approx.).

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

Go top
The product is not classified as a construction material.

PRIMING

Go top
Substrate preparation
The substrate must be dry, without cracks, free from dust, dirt, oils, grease and wax. Remove any loose, poorly bonded layers before the emulsion application. If necessary, grind the surface in order to remove laitance, matt the surface or improve its absorptiveness. Very smooth surfaces should be milled or shot blasted and dusted.
Emulsion preparation
Shake the packaging well before use. For the first coat emulsion can be diluted with clean water in 1:1 ratio, for the second coat emulsion should be used undiluted. Emulsion must not be mixed with other materials or thickened.
Priming
Emulsion is applied upon substrate twice with a nylon roller, a paintbrush or a brush, with thin and uniform coat. Do not leave damp patches or puddles. First priming should be executed with emulsion diluted with water in 1:1 ratio. When the first coat dries (after approx. 1 hour), repeat the priming with undiluted emulsion.
Surface use
Application of finishing coats can commence when emulsion dries, i.e. after approx. 2 hours since application of the second coat. The primer should form matt surface after drying.

CONSUMPTION

Go top
The average consumption is 0.2 kg of emulsion for 1 m². In practice, consumption depends on substrate absorptiveness.

PACKAGING

Go top
Plastic drums: 10 kg
Pallet: 600 kg in 10 kg drums

IMPORTANT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Go top
• Directly before use store the emulsion in room of planned application.
• Do not use upon floors on the ground or screeds exposed to permanent damp.
• NOTE. When installing parquet, one should always apply compound layer between primed substrate and coat of adhesive for parquet.
• Clean the tools with clean water directly after use.
• Keep out of reach of children. Follow the instructions of the Safety Data Sheet.
• The emulsion must be transported and stored in tightly sealed packaging, in dry conditions and positive temperature. Protect against freezing. Unused material left should be kept in tightly closed packaging. The emulsion shelf life in conditions as above is 12 months from the production date shown on the packaging.

The above information constitutes basic guidelines for the application of the product and does not release the user from the obligation of carrying out works according to engineering principles and OHS regulations.
At the time of publication of this product data sheet all previous ones become void.
