Cement Base Coat is designed for application of contact coat prior to application of main coat of cement – lime plasters: MACHINE-APPLIED LIGHT CEMENT-LIME PLASTER, MACHINE-APPLIED SUPER LIGHT CEMENT-LIME PLASTER and MACHINE-APPLIED LIGHT CEMENT-LIME PLASTER FOR OUTDOOR USE. Can be applied manually or mechanically. For indoor and outdoor use, upon rough surfaces of bricks, hollow and ceramic blocks, concrete and chipboards. The mortar should not be used on metal, timber and plastic surfaces.

Cement Base Coat is manufactured as a dry mix of cement, quartz fillers and special components ensuring mortar plasticity and improving its workability. Improves bonding of main coat to the substrate and is particularly important upon smooth substrates or those of low absorptiveness. Cement Base Coat is frost- and waterproof.

The substrate should be dry, stable and cleaned of impurities which would impair bonding, particularly of dust, dirt, oils, greases, residues of paint coatings and anti-adhesion agents. Poorly bonded substrate elements should be hacked off, loose dusty fragments additionally cleaned with the use of a card. The substrate should be properly aged and its humidity must not exceed 3%. Absorptive substrates should be primed with one of the priming agents EURO-GRUNT. We recommend to prime ceramic elements, but leave the installer to decide after thorough substrate evaluation. Smooth substrates should be primed with INTER-GRUNT agent. The agents must dry before base coat application. Edges of joints of chipboards should be strengthened with strips of stainless metal mesh.

The mortar is prepared in a plastering unit equipped with spiral pumps, by pouring the dry mix into the hopper. Keep the mortar consistency thickened. In case of manual application, pour the dry mix into a container with appropriate amount of clean water, keep the ratio listed in the Technical Data section, mix manually or mechanically until homogenous, free of lumps mass is formed.

Thickened mortar is applied with uniform coat min. 4 mm thick, mechanically or manually, upon properly prepared substrate. The coat surface should not be levelled nor floated and left for initial hardening. Base Coat requires approx. 1-3 days for setting and reaching appropriate mechanical properties. During this period of time, avoid draught, protect the surface against wind, direct sunlight and precipitation. Apply main plaster coat then.
